Peter Hollens brings a sound that I normally would only hear once a year, but then I listened to Legendary Folk Sounds and I found something I can listen to all year long.

Album Review | Peter Hollens – ‘Legendary Folk Songs’What I love about Holiday music is the fullness the vocals have along with a darkness.  You may be asking why I am talking about Holiday music when it will be played in a few months.  Well, Peter Hollens was able to bring out a sound that I normally only hear that one time of the year and make an album that I can listen to all year long.  Now I keep talking about a dark sound and you might be asking why would someone like that?  Well, behind that dark tone to the vocals is a cheerful and hopeful voice.  It’s rare to be able to capture that sound perfectly and Holiday music is somehow always able to do that until Legendary Folk Songs came about.

When you’re doing an album review you usually pick a song that you really enjoyed and stuck out the most.  The problem I have with doing that is that every song is done extremely well so it’s hard to pick just one.  But if I had to it would be The Parting Glass with The Hound & The Fox.  What I loved about this song are the female vocals they used.  In a song like this those vocals were much needed and used in the right place.  Also with having all of these different vocals I could see the song being sung around the campfire.

Now you look at the track listening for Legendary Folk Songs you may notice a few classic Holiday songs.  I think it was a great idea putting these songs on here. Like I said at the start of this album review Holiday songs have that that dark tone and they also have a Folk Genre history.

From top to bottom Legendary Folk Songs hit all of the right notes.  Not only is this a perfect album to explore a darker yet beautiful sound it’s something you’ll enjoy listening to all year long.

You can take a listen to this album on all streaming services.  Tell us what you think about the album in the comments.
