Verdict: Beautiful

Story: The Last Black Man in San Francisco starts as we meet Jimmie Fails (Fails) who has been making ends meet in San Francisco, waiting for the chance to house his grandfather built, along with his best friend Montgomery Allen (Majors) the pair explore the city, as people that will work to make it.

The two friends find themselves back in the house, but it shows how difficult it would be to live in the middle of a big city, with people always trying to hold people back and always out for their own greed.

Thoughts on The Last Black Man in San Francisco

Characters – Jimmie Fails lives a simple life as a nurse for the elderly, when he is free, he spends time doing up his childhood home, even when he doesn’t live there, he hopes to move back in one day, despite the dream being harder than he could imagine, when the house becomes free, he looks to make a move, back into the luxury home. Montgomery Allen is the best friend of Jimmie, the two do everything together, with Montgomery always looking to brings the brains to the bigger problems the two might face. We do meet the people that have made an impact in both the men’s lives, be it family, friends, they have done everything for the men in the past.

PerformancesJimmie Fails is a revelation in the leading role giving one of the best performances of the year, with Jonathan Majors complimenting him as the co-lead to the film with the pair being brilliant together.

StoryThe story here follows two men in San Francisco who are trying to return to a home one once had before, only the house is out of the price range of the people who found the area. We get to see how quickly life can change from generation to generation, highlight the divide between the rich and poor is continuing to grow and becoming even harder to deal with. We get to see the importance of friendship as those people will help guide you through the toughest moments in your life. We get to see that no matter how different life might go, the people who have changed will always have the memories of you too.

SettingsSan Francisco is a beautiful backdrop for this film, it does show that the luxury side of it, is slowly putting to original residents out of the city they once called theirs.

Final Thoughts This is a beautiful movie that brings to life the difference between the rich and poor with ease, with two powerhouse performances from the leading men.
