A Lovely Sunday Brunch at Tamra, Shangri-La's Eros Hotel, Delhi

By Thetastingfork
I simply loved Tamra when I went for their dinner buffet a few months ago (read here), and I was sincerely hoping their Sunday Brunch would be even better! And better, it certainly was! Their Sunday Brunch has a different theme every week, so you're in for a surprise when you go. But the regular counters remain the same every Sunday.

The place is done up with utensils of copper and use of browns and shiny objects for the glint everywhere. Copper because Tamra means copper. Very plush seating with comfortable chairs and sofa chairs and the lighting suited perfectly for every meal of the day (dim at night and bright and sunny in the day).

Their Sunday Brunch has something for everyone- an Indian section combined with Coastal/Chettinad cuisine, an Oriental section with Thai, Chinese and Asian selections, a Sushi and salad counter for the sushi lovers and health conscious, a lovely European counter with the bakes and a live grill, a seafood counter to indulge yourself into, a chaat counter with dahi bhalle, gol gappe, papdi chaat, and lastly a very very impressive dessert counter that makes you want to skip to the last course almost immediately!

Their sushi was delicious! Very very fresh a super fine selection. Got myself some lamb from their Teppanyaki section and that tasted smacking too. Their seafood counter is truly a delight for every seafood lover! It's a ready-to-eat cold seafood counter where they have crabs, prawns, squids, scallops, and a wide array of dressing, drizzles and sauces to go with it. Beautiful stuff! Save your appetite and gorge only on this!

The European section had a lovely cut of lamb on the day I went. This fresh meat changes every week. With different types of sausages to choose from, some lasagna and ratatouille, delicious warm breads, spinach and corn, some mash and a few crisp golden brown potatoes, I kickstarted my Sunday Brunch in an extremely extravagant way. Nothing out of whatever I tried here failed to impress me. For mains I had Penne in Mixed Sauce, but I really really miss my pizzas at Tamra. That's the only thing they need to add to their buffet to complete it.

The salad counter saw a lip-smacking hummus, a mouth-watering salad of squid, a DIY counter for your choice of greens and dressings, cheese and lavash, and you're all set to nibble on things while you sip your champagne.

Moving to their Indian section, the biryanis just swept me off my feet! Prawn, Lamb and Chicken Biryani, with Rogan Josh, Paneer Lababdar, Dal Makhni, Butter Garlic Naans, some Prawn and Chicken Chettinad, and you're in a world you wouldn't want to come back from. Tamra has one of the most spectacular Indian food I've ever had in a buffet. The starters had Chicken Tikka, Paneer Tikka, a vegetable tikki, Fish Ajwaini Tikka, and all of these were better than the previous one. The Indian section was one to completely go gaga over! Spoilt for choice.

The Oriental section is always my favourite, and seeing dimsums in a buffet is the best feeling ever!! With six types of dimsums (three veg and three non veg), six kinds of sauces to go with it, a customizable order of soup or Khowsuey, a hearty helping of Fried Rice, Green Thai Curry and Kung Pao Chicken, the Oriental Counter was a blessing! Too full to do justice, but I still had my share of variety.

Didn't try the chaat because I was too full by the time I realised I had left it out. Moved on to desserts, where they had a stellar-looking chocolate fountain. Not the usual four tier or five tier chocolate fountain with only milk chocolate in it, but a chocolate fountain divided into two parts with one part having white chocolate and the other one with milk chocolate. The accompaniments with this were so so apt- jujubees, marshmallows, chocolate chip cake and vanilla cake, among more that I didn't take. The dessert counter saw a brilliant moist Choco Lava Cake that got finished within minutes- yes, it was that good. Cakes, pastries, tarts, mousse- they did it all very yummily. But what really stood out was their ice-cream section. They ice-creams and yoghurts are prepared in-house and they have the most excellent flavours ever! Their ice-cream counter is a must must try!

My meal was accompanied with some yummy cocktails and mocktails, and a lot of champagne! Delhi Mule was a vodka based cocktail with mango juice- delicious and very potent! Danny Wild was vodka based too and the menu read lemongrass infused but I couldn't taste that. Post this I switched to champagne. The Apple Mojito was to die for!! The drinks were a perfect companion to the delicious brunch.

Nothing in the meal was average, nothing tasted like, "Oh, I shouldn't have taken this." Tamra's Sunday Brunch is complete value for money and the staff indeed makes sure you have a gala time. This one is surely not to be missed. Quality and taste- they fare amazingly well at both.
