J0227488Baby Boomers are approaching retirement differently from their parents’ generation, when many simply stopped working and 80% continued to live in the same home where they raised their families.

Many Baby Boomers plan to continue working at least part time, and more than half plan to make some kind of move for a variety of reasons... some staying in the same or nearby communiiesy but about half planning to move to another state.

Their reasons are as varied as they are...

  1. Moving closer to family... children, parents, grandchildren, extended family
  2. Moving to live in their 'dream destination'
  3. Downsizing or cross-sizing for changing space and accessibility needs
  4. Moving to eliminate a mortgage
  5. Moving to a location with a lower cost of living, including lower heating and cooling costs, lower taxes
  6. Moving to an area with a good fit for new desired lifestyle
  7. Moving to a better climate
  8. Moving for a new sense of community... learning, creating, serving, sharing, culture, simplicity
  9. Moving to a location with better/more accessible health care

Baby Boomers have always been ones to jump in and experience new things and retirement moves are no different. Of all the reasons for moving, however, the one with the strongest pull is that of family... often creating a boomerang effect.
