5 Travel Podcasts to Listen to This Summer 2 min read

Summer is usually the perfect time to take an adventure. Unfortunately, this year, travel (like many other things) is looking a lot different.

With so much uncertainty over the safety of travel during the pandemic, many people are choosing to keep their summer vacations a little closer to home. However, that doesn't mean you can't mentally getaway.

Travel podcasts are one of our favorite ways to explore somewhere new without ever leaving the house. Here are five of our favorites for this summer.

Amateur Traveler Podcast, created by Chris Christensen, has been running since 2005. Every week, Chris covers a specific destination, talking with someone who has visited that destination, currently lives there, or wrote a book on it. There are over 700 episodes covering cities and countries all over the world.

Women Who Travel is a podcast created by Condé Nast Traveler editors Lale Arikoglu and Meredith Carey. Beyond just giving travel advice, Women Who Travel explores the realities that face women as they travel around the world. These episodes are less about specific destinations and more about how women can make the most of their time away from home.

The Pindrop podcast is a newer show but has a lot of promise. Created by TED Talks, Pindrop follows host Saleem Reshamwala around the world as he searches for "the world's most surprising and imaginative ideas." Each episode shares a story about a particular city, including local journalists and eccentric characters that let you imagine you're really there.

Extra Pack of Peanuts is hosted by husband and wife, Trav and Heather. Every week or so, the two discuss their favorite destinations around the world or interview travelers who are doing things a bit differently. Recent guests include a man on a two-year bike trip from Alaska to Argentina and a woman on her path to get Italian citizenship. They have a lot of fun with their episodes, so there is something for everyone.

Hosted by Amanda Kendle, The Thoughtful Travel Podcast gives tips for how travelers can make their next adventure better. Amanda shares tips on how to meet locals, what to do if you get sick on your trip, and how to manage anxiety when you're on the go. She publishes a new episode every week, so there is a ton of content to get you through the summer.
