"Dong-Dong-Dong-Chiang! Dong-Dong-Dong-Chiang!" It's gona be a brand new year in the Lunar Calendar in a week's time and every year, I will do a Chinese New Year E-Greeting to all my friends and families to wish them all the best in the year to come.
So, if you are intending to do the same like me or happen to be visiting Singapore or perhaps looking for other beautiful, festive Instagram-worthy photography options instead of the crowded Chinatown, you have got to check out my list of CNY alternatives.
Ready? Do you have your firecrackers and monkey props? Here we go!
1) Giordano at Suntec City
Who says shopping is boring?! I stumbled upon this lovely set within the Giordano store in Suntec City Mall and it's photo booth ready with props. It's definitely bringing in customers for the store and makes a great photo ready backdrop to usher in all the wealth and prosperity!
2) Orchard Central
After winning the best dressed mall during the Christmas period, Orchard Central have outdone themselves for Chinese New Year by transforming the mall front into 花果山 (Flower Fruit Mountain) where the fabled 孙悟空 (Sun WuKong aka Monkey King) from Journey to the West lives.
But well, being a hot mall along the Orchard Road stretch is not a a good place for photography. Everyone is trying to get a picture and they don't mind getting into yours. Good luck getting everyone out of the way...
I should have worn a 'cheongsam' eh?
3) IMM
At the main entrance right outside the Coach outlet store, there is this lovely "backyard" full of flowers that not only makes a great space for photography, but also for resting and taking a break from all the amazing sales deals!
4) AMK Hub
Being a suburban mall in the heart of Ang Mo Kio, AMK Hub do put in a lot of heart in their festive decorations. They have gotten all 12 animals from the Zodiac out to play at their front door and this is the only place I spot a female Monkey being used for decoration...
Oh! I name this the little River Hongbao in the North, coz this lantern characters light up at 7pm and they remind me of those specially designed lanterns at the River Hongbao every year. :)
5) Northpoint
Well, need I say more? With a pot of gold tree that big, why shouldn't I be standing under its shade 24/7 eh? Who knows, I might even strike it rich just being shaking those gold coins off. Tehehehehe...
