3 Fun Ways To Encourage Your Child to Enjoy Creative WritingA few days ago, I shared some tips on how to encourage your child to continue reading over the summer. Reading is a lifelong skill that all children need to maintain through out their lives, including after they graduate from high school or college. In the work place there are all sorts of documents that they will need to be able to read and interpret with little or no interaction from their boss or co-workers. In addition to reading, they will also need to be able to write and compose business documents, internal letters, emails, and much more during their lifetime. So today I wanted to share with you some tips on how to encourage your children to maintain and improve their writing skills over the summer.

Write Their Own Creative Story Using Flint Books

The Flint book was designed to get kids interested in writing their own book. It is filled with photos and plenty of your room for your child to create their own story. The book was designed to allow your children to use their own imagination instead of relying on other people creating creative stories, cartoons, apps on their electronic devices and more. Kids need a chance to be creative and to create their own ideas. The book is the right size and it was made this way so that your child can carry it anywhere they go.

The book was designed and illustrated by Kevin Meier. He created and designed the book so that your child can be encouraged to write their very own story. They won’t be given choices on which way the story goes, which adventure they will chose, or pick what each character does throughout the story. Instead, your child is given a blank canvas and plenty of room to write their own story. Don’t worry there are illustrations that will give your child some clues about the story. From there your child will use the clues from the photos and will draw their own ideas based on what they think the characters are doing and write where they want their story to go.

Grab some notebook paper and have your child get started writing their very own story. The reason that I, suggest that your child grab some notebook paper instead of writing it in their book first. As they are writing, they will probably make some errors or want to change the story as they go. Using notebook paper will allow them to write their first draft and then they can record their final draft into their book. The final draft should be error free. Or you can even have your child use notebook paper or the computer  to keep re-writing their own stories over and over again. The opportunities are endless with Flint book.If your child is still to young to write, you can even allow them to tell you the story and you can write it for them.

As a parent, you want to give your child plenty of opportunities to use their creative thinking skills, it will help them think “outside of the box” when they are working on other projects for school or work. Creative thinkers are used in a variety of positions such as researchers, scientists, engineers, medical doctors and nurses, technology inventors, entrepreneurs, artists, performers, writers, educators, and the list goes on and on.
