117: How to Talk About Health and Stress in Mandarin Chinese

By Learnmandarinnow

Getting stressed out is all too common in this modern world of instant this and instant that. It seems like everything has to be done all at the same time. Sometimes it’s useful to be able to talk about stress and health with other people and maybe things then don’t seem so bad!

In this Podcast, you will learn:

(i) To explain the causes of your stress to someone else

(ii) How to describe the reasons for ill-health

Dialogue: two colleagues are talking about stress and family issues in the office:

A: 小王,你看起来很累的样子,你还好吧?Xiǎo wáng, nǐ kàn qǐlái hěn lèi de yàngzi, nǐ hái hǎo ba?

Wang, you look rather tired recently, are you all right?

B: 唉,最近压力挺大的。Āi, zuìjìn yālì tǐng dà de.

Ai, I have been under pressure.

A: 怎么了?是工作还是家里的事儿?ZěnmeLe? Shì gōngzuò háishì jiālǐ de shì er?

What’s the matter? Is it work or family issues?

B: 唉都有吧。最近,我不是有个新项目要忙么,可是真不巧,我老婆出差,我儿子前几天还发烧了。我公司家里两头儿照顾,唉呀,忙的焦头烂额,都失眠了。

Āi dōu yǒu ba. Zuìjìn, wǒ bùshì yǒu gè xīn xiàngmù yào máng me, kěshì zhēn bù qiǎo, wǒ lǎopó chūchāi, wǒ érzi qián jǐ tiān hái fāshāole. Wǒ gōngsī jiālǐ liǎngtóu er zhàogù, āi ya, máng de jiāotóulàn’é, dōu shīmiánle.

Both. Recently, I was very busy for the new project and, coincidentally, my wife was on a business trip. My son caught a fever couple of days ago. Now I have to take care of work and home. Aiya, I am so busy, and I have trouble sleeping.
