113: Buying Furniture and Electronic Items in Mandarin Chinese

Once you’ve found somewhere to live in China, possibly you’ll need to get some furniture and/or electrical appliances to complete your home. You may know where to go to buy such items but can you effectively discuss them with the sales staff and order them?

In this Podcast, you will learn:

(i) To identify a list of electrical items you may need for your home

(ii) How to summarise such a list and be ready to go shopping Dialogue: A couple are going to buy electronics for their home:

A: 老公,咱们今天一定要把电器都买齐了。Lǎogōng, zánmen jīntiān yīdìng yào bǎ diànqì dōu mǎi qíle. Lǎogōng, zánmen jīntiān yīdìng yào bǎ diànqì dōu mǎi qíle.

Dear, today we must go and buy all the electrical appliances we need.

B: 成。我列个单子……微波炉,电冰箱,空调,电视……Chéng. Wǒ liè gè dānzi……wéibōlú, diàn bīngxiāng, kòngtiáo, diànshì……

All right. Let me make a list……microwave, fridge, AC’s, TV…

A: 还有热水器。Hái yǒu rèshuǐqì.

And also a water heater.

B: 对,还要一个电饭锅。Duì, hái yào yīgè diàn fàn guō.

Yes, and a rice cooker.

A:还可以买一个烤箱。Hái kěyǐ mǎi yīgè kǎoxiāng.

And we can buy an oven.

B: 哇,要买的可真不少啊!Wǒ, yāomǎi de kě zhēn bù shǎo a!

Wow, there are lots of things to buy.
