10 Dos And Don’ts For Attending Your First Food Blogger Conference

By Jannese Torres @delishdlites

Hi there my awesome readers! If you’ve been wondering where I’ve been, I’ve been quite busy, trust me, so please excuse me absense. Last week, I flew all the way to Seattle, Washington attending the 2014 International Food Blogger Conference!

IFBC

Foodista.com CEO Sheri Wetherell!

It was my first time attending a conference about blogging, and so I thought it would be useful to share some useful tips that I learned by attending this conference.  These rules apply to any and all types of conferences, and will keep you from losing your mind.  Follow these simple tips to have a stress-free and enjoyable conference, no matter what!

10.  DO some research about the city you’re visiting, and build in time to explore the sights.  There’s nothing worse than flying half way across the world, only to sit in a windowless hotel conference room all day!

9. DON’T forget to leave some room to bring home FREE goodies! You won’t believe the amount of free stuff you’ll get at these events!

8. DO make sure to bring business cards, you’ll be handing them out to fellow bloggers and company reps like candy!

7. DON’T try to do everything, it’s impossible. Seriously.

6. DO have a game plan when you attend a conference. Focus on a specific realm of your blog you’d like to focus on, and stick to the programming that best suits your goal.

5. DON’T bring a ton of technology with you.  A camera and a notebook are more than enough, lugging around your laptop is unnecessary and cumbersome.

4. DO interact with as many bloggers as you can.  There’s only so much you can learn from Powerpoint presentations, the real learning comes from sharing advice, stories and lessons with your fellow bloggers.

3. DON’T start comparing yourself to other bloggers.  You are your own version of success, so be proud of that! This isn’t a competition.

2. DO make sure to get some rest between the whirlwind of events, otherwise you’ll come home exhausted and sleep deprived, and who needs that?

1. DON’T forget to have FUN! After all, isn’t that what blogging is all about?

To my fellow food bloggers: What other tips would you recommend? Share your thoughts!
