Last month, I took the new Brisbane-based dress hire company Never Twice for a test run.
The premise behind Never Twice is simple–clients can hire the latest designer dresses at a fraction of their original retail cost, which means you save money AND still get to look the goods.
After all, why spend $250 on a Realisation Par spotty dress–the type that’s being copied all over town–when you can rent it for just $29 a day?
I chose to rent a Zimmermann Winsome Flounce Dress from the latest collection, which has a retail value of $750 (which means it doesn’t fit into my budget, no matter how good it looks).
I borrowed it for four days, choosing to receive it the day two days before my planned event–Cassie’s birthday celebration over bottomless Bellini’s at Darling & Co–so I had time to make sure it fit before the big event.
The dress arrived in a box, carefully wrapped in tissue paper; it was clean and just required a light steaming to get out a couple of wrinkles.
The dress fit perfectly and Cass and I had a great time drinking Bellini’s over lunch and talking about anything and everything before kicking off for some afternoon cocktails at Sixes and Sevens.
The following day, I popped it into an express post-bag that was included when I received the dress and sent it back. No dry cleaning needed and no guilt over spending hundreds of a dollars on a dress I’d probably wear once. Winning!
