Your Shorts Collection for Summer

By Linsibrownson @CleverSpark

Summer is just around the corner, and one trend I keep seeing which strikes unspeakable fear into my heart is:

cue Psycho shower slasher music …

Jorts.

Okay, maybe it’s not exactly horror I feel. But every time I see a pair of jean shorts, I think “really?” I’ll admit, some aren’t so bad; the ones which are dark denim and don’t have any extreme distressing don’t bother me too much. However, extreme distressing, pockets hanging out the bottom, frayed ends. Perhaps perfectly fine for someone who’s 17 and on spring break.

But not you, ladies. Not you.

So I put together a short list of my favorite summer shorts, just for you. See my notes after the photo.

See, much better. Let’s break it down.

The Printed Chino – The only thing that can redeem a chino short is some fun color and a print. And, hey, let’s face it, chino shorts are comfortable. Nervous about buying a print because, “what am I going to wear it with?!” Don’t fret – just buy a print you like and the rest will fall into place.

The Sailor – I love details, and I really love the side button detail. Plus, the flat front is slimming (provided it fits well).

Cuffed & Pleated – These particular shorts are a relaxed fit, they’re meant to be just a bit baggy. Look for styles with flat pockets on the back so you don’t have extra bulk on your derriere.

The Lace Shortie – I don’t care if you have a bit of cellulite on your thighs. Besides the model in the photo, who doesn’t? These are a fun and playful addition to your wardrobe. So maybe you don’t wear them every weekend during the summer. Save them for a beach day or an occasional afternoon cookout with friends. They’re high-waisted, so make sure they fit very well and not too tight.

The Bermuda – I love long shorts. With longer shorts, you can pair them with anything you might wear with pants. Seriously, swap out only the pants in an outfit for bermudas, and now you’ve got a fun summer look.
