Via LA TImes: ”WWE wrestler Darren Young became the first active pro wrestling star in a major organization to announce that he is gay. Young arrived in Los Angeles on Wednesday for this weekend’s SummerSlam pay-per-view event at Staples Center and was being interviewed by a TMZ cameraman while walking to his car at LAX. The cameraman asked Young if he thought a gay wrestler could be successful in WWE, and Young gave an answer the cameraman was not expecting. ”Absolutely. Look at me. I’m a WWE superstar and to be honest with you, I’ll tell you right now, I’m gay. And I’m happy. I’m very happy.”
Good for Darren. I think we can all agree that this better not be a WWE marketing stunt. I doubt it, but with those guys, you never know. However, I doubt McMahon and crew wouldn’t do something along these lines just to make a buck. Honestly, I think the WWE is probably a pretty safe place for this to happen. For some reason, I just can’t see guys getting all worked up about this stuff. Sure, they’re half naked and grabbing each other for hours on end, but these guys are “Pro Wrestlers.” You know, fake fighting, dramatic and ridiculous. They have to be open to just about anything since they are basically actors. Here’s hoping Darren Young gets to continue to wrestle and doesn’t have to deal with any crap.
