Writing Challenge 48

By Brian Abbott

Might this month’s writing challenge summon thoughts of Victorian gentlemen sitting beside a roaring fire, reading a tome, and smoking a pipe?

Each month, The Poisoned Martini presents a photo to spark your creativity.  Such images, because of their visual nature, vividly speak to writers and spark ideas for writing.  View the image below and write a scene, a short story, a chapter, a novella, or maybe even a novel.  Consider what the image means to you, what it reminds you of, or explore what it could be.  Ponder what you see and then put pen to paper or finger to keyboard.

Last month’s image of featured a carved wooden hand pointing the way. The carving can be found on the side of a building in Niagara-on-the-Lake, pointing down a side street. The image, taken in August 2015, may be viewed here.

Now take up your pencils, your pens, or your keyboard and follow your instincts and write. What will this month’s image inspire?
