World Trigger 18: I Don’t Need Lessons, Much Less Three

World Trigger Chapter 18

One of the founding reasons why World Trigger remained interesting was because it had a subplot where Border remained a mysterious organization, and they were not as good as people made them out to be. Well, this chapter half brings it back to a point where I can care, though I still think it needs a bit more to get me interested.

World Trigger Chapter 18

Obviously we start with the surprise of everyone that Yuma’s father, Yugo, not only was known by most of Border, but was one of its original members four years ago. Right now with this revelation, it comes down to whose perspective is correct: Yuma’s, who said his father wasn’t involved in Border, or Border, who claims this to be the case. Each case is flawed since Yuma himself shared the three lessons Yugo told him to Chika. Someone is lying, I think. Whether it’s a personal thing or not, I think the three lessons Yuma was told will be important as the series progresses.

Then it gets to the part where I was certain Border was a pretty shady organization, except with the use of factions. No it’s not a great substitute, but it’s an effective one because it prods one to think, “why these perspectives? The goal is to take care of the Neighbors right?” But as always, there’s pride and a case of losing sight of what you’re really supposed to do. Right now everyone wants to obtain the Black Trigger from Yuma for reasons called “power and control,” not “to lessen the existence of Neighbors entering Mikado City, or to find peace.”

World Trigger Chapter 18

It’ll be interesting to see what Yuma chooses to do: join Border, or choose to stay out of it. My guess is he’ll join, since that would change the shape of the plot and what Border does, and maybe he can find his dad’s friend and go from there. Chika will also have to factor into this decision too since she’s bent on making sure no one helps her trion problem, but who knows, she may decide to live with it. Otherwise, I think this is on the path to creating something interesting, but seriously, they gotta start making me care about these characters.
