Picking out a good PC or a laptop is easy. The hard part comes after taking that device home, deciding which operating system to use. While, Apple users get stuck with MacOS, PC users have a choice. They can spend a few extra bucks to go premium with Windows or go free with Linux and save some money along the way.

Windows, MacOS and Ubuntu has always been the top choices for computer users. Statistics shows that Windows has the larger market in operating systems. However, when it comes to choosing the best OS, there are few factors that you need to consider like the purpose of the computer, how you’re going to use it and what kind of softwares you’re going to work with. Although, what makes it harder to choose is that all Windows, MacOS and Ubuntu operating systems have its’ own unique features that we can’t resist. What are they, you ask? Let’s take a look, shall we.

Windows 8

After releasing the next-generation operating system, Windows 8 in 2012, Microsoft received a lot of criticism from users regarding its certain annoying features. However, after closely listening to all of those requests, Microsoft crafted an upgrade to the OS, Windows 8.1, which is scheduled to roll out as a free update on October 17th. This upgrade makes the new Windows 8.1 almost invincible with brilliant features like a stylish Start button, aggregated search system, faster performance and more improvements for the Desktop version of the OS.

Unlike Microsoft, Apple doesn’t release next-gen operating systems very often. Instead the company rolls out updates for existing version of the OS to make it even better. Latest update for OS X dubbed “Mavericks” is set to be released in October. This new upgrade comes packed with a lot of improvements to the OS including updated apps, multi-monitor support, improved performance and improved iCloud management. All the Apple fans are eagerly waiting to receive this update.

Ubuntu 12.04

Latest version of Ubuntu is 13.04. But, if you’re looking to settle, go for the Ubuntu 12.04 LTS which guarantees security and support updates until April 2017. Most PC users tend to stay away from Linux thinking it’s hard use. Truth is they are scared of the big change because the jump from Windows to Linux is not easy to make.

Despite the popular opinion, I think Ubuntu is very easy to use, as long as you have some time to spend learning the Linux system. All the free apps, Ubuntu One personal cloud management, improved Unity UI, music app and free office apps makes Ubuntu better than any other OS. My most favorite thing about Ubuntu is that I don’t have to worry about installing any anti-virus softwares and then spend time updating it everyday, while renewing its’ license year after year.

Overall, all three of these operating systems have both good and bad qualities.Although, as a PC user I have both Windows and Ubuntu installed on my laptop because I love them both. MacOS, not so much.

So, what operating system do you use? Which one do you think is better? Vote in the debate we have created on Quoners.com. We would like to know your vote and opinion. Let’s see which OS gets the most votes.
