Raspberry Pi and Arduino Makers can now download the Windows 10 IoT Core OS for free.

Earlier this year Microsoft revealed in a surprising announcement that Windows 10 will be available to all users as a free download. The company also mentioned a special edition of the OS for DIY makers, which brings Windows features to low-cost, small-footprint devices. Keeping its promise, Microsoft has officially rolled out the Windows 10 IoT Core and it’s now available for download.

“Our goal is to give Makers the opportunity to play with the software bits early and to listen to the feedback on what’s working well and what we can do better,” said Microsoft’s Steve Teixeira. “You may notice some missing drivers or rough edges; we look forward to receiving your feedback to help us prioritize development work. We’ll be incorporating the feedback we receive into regular software updates along with additional drivers, bug fixes and new features.”

Microsoft has also teamed up with Arduino to make Windows 10 the world’s first Arduino-certified operating system and released a couple of open source libraries, , for makers.
