Net gains…  At the first Wimbledon in 1877 the dimensions for the net were as follows: 3 feet 3 inches (1 metre) high in the middle of the court, suspended from two posts placed 3 feet outside the court at a height of 5 feet. The modern net is 3 ½ feet (1.07 metres) high.
