With the recent re-release of "The Lion King" into theaters both in 3D and regular film, Disney has opened up a new way for film's to be tastelessly re introduced to theaters all in the name of profit. What started as a unique way for Disney to market the upcoming release of "The Lion King" onto Blu-Ray has turned into pure profit. The re-release has toppled their box office predictions and has been the number one film in theaters for the past two weeks.
Now the floodgates have opened, and every past box office success will probably be regurgitated all in the name of greed. Not surprisingly James Cameron has announced the release date for Titanic 3D, which if your interested in seeing the ship sink again in 3D it comes to theaters April 2012. Even James Cameron in a recent interview with TheWrap admitted what is all too obvious. "Cameron said that whatever doubts there were among the two studios re-releasing "Titanic" in 3D have "pretty much evaporated." Paramount and Fox are planning to release Cameron's 3D-converted "Titanic" next April. "Lion King 3D" took in $30.2 million this past weekend. "They see this potential," the filmmaker said. I will definitely admit that if converted properly, there are a few past favorites that I would be tempted to see. I just think the reasons for doing this are all too obvious, and the film industry already is becoming increasingly unoriginal. Hopefully this is a limited fad, which will probably be tied to the future of 3D. What do you think, are you excited to see past favorites in 3D?
