Will the Blog Sharing Madness Ever End?

Will the Blog Sharing Madness Ever End

Of course you have no idea what I’m talking about but peeps, THIS IS REAL STUFF!

If you’re like me and belong to some blogging groups on Facebook or Google+, I’m sure you’ve run into some of the frustration I’m about to dump on you!

Social Sharing Buttons

YES, These are an essential part of your blog! You want to interact with your readers so you enable comments, but what about having your post shared across social media?

“But I have Share icons on my site?”

Well, that’s definitely the first step BUT are they showing up on mobile?

The other day I was going through one of my groups intending of sharing all the ones who requested having their links shared. No sweat! I can do that while sitting on my throne at work!

Oh hell no!

Apparently, not ALL social sharing applications are mobile responsive!

What does that mean?

It means that those who read your blog via tablet or mobile won’t be able to easily share your work because there aren’t any share buttons!

Oh, the travesty!

It’s cool that you think by enabling that WordPress option for Mobile Theme or install a plugin that is supposed to help, that all will be well with your site.

WRONG!

If you look at a WordPress.com or WordPress.org site that is using the WP Mobile Theme via Jetpack or a different plugin, your mobile readers may not see social sharing buttons, thus making it next to a miracle of them sharing your work.

Two of my Fav Options

Here’s a quick and easy fix.

  • If you use WordPress, enable Jetpack Sharing Buttons. These buttons will be shown on the web as well as mobile.
  • Another option, if you use WordPress and Genesis Themes, install and activate the Genesis Simple Share plugin. Again, these will be seen on mobile. You can see Genesis Simple Share in action on my business site, Virtual Bren.
  • There is a Premium plugin that you could also try, it’s called Social Warfare. It’s inexpensive, fully customizable, has many other options available, and the sharing buttons will be seen on mobile.

Be aware folks and PLEASE take your sites for a test drive! Make sure everything  works the way it should and all your bells and whistles can be seen via the web as well as mobile!
