Terrifically frustrating watching this kid try to jerk everything to RF. Every so often the blind squirrel does find an acorn, but he is too many years in the league to not know that he is getting pitched outside and the only option is to hit the ball where it is pitched - gap to gap. When he is overpowered he can hit to the Warning Track in LC (383') without even keeping his weight behind the swing. He would be an absolutely scary power hitter with just that minor adjustment - keeping the weight back and looking for the pitch out over the middle of the plate. He has natural turn on inside pitches and can continue to do that if the pitch count is in his favor. He is either unable or unwilling to make pitchers throw him better pitches, because if he starts to take a few up the middle, then that pitcher has to fear for his life when he throws that ball over the middle or the outer third of the plate. Watch 'Cutch - when he is in front of everything he struggles, until he waits back and starts to hit the ball straight out. He has outstanding power to CF/RC and once he starts to drive the ball straight out with authority, then the pitchers have to adjust, and then he is in charge. Good hitters make that adjustment, and I know this kid has it within him to make that adjustment - if he wants to. If not, the Pirates will eventually give him that ARAM "wake-up" call and he will become a scary power hitter with another team.
