Why Old Furniture Can Be a Risk to Your Health

By Jakemontgomery @LTDOnlineStores

Did you know that old furniture can pose a risk to your health? We’re all well aware of problems with mold and mildew but there are other reasons why you need to be mindful of replacing old furniture around the house. No I’m not just talking about furniture that is unsightly; this is something else altogether.

The same Ten Commandments of Buying Used Furniture should apply to your decision on whether or not to replace your bathroom vanity. Be truthful in your decision and decide when is the right time to replace your old bathroom furniture.  If you wouldn’t buy it used, then it may be time to start thinking of replacing your old furniture.

Is Your Furniture Putting You at Risk?

The constant humidity in your bathroom can do strange things to your wood vanity. Solid wood vanities work best in the bathroom but even a solid wood vanity will not fare well in a bathroom that doesn’t have an extractor fan. Dealing with water damage from flooding? Some people try to sand down the finish and cover it but this is not the best solution.

Mold spores float in the air and this can creep into your respiratory system. You can remove mold from your bathroom on your own if you catch it in the early stages. Otherwise, you may have to call a mold remediation specialist. The city can even shut down your house and deem your home uninhabitable if it gets to this point.

A Step in the Right Direction

Maintaining your home means maintaining everything between those four walls. Be sure to keep your bathroom clean and free of obstructions. Not only will this improve the visual appeal of your bathroom, it will help keep you and your family safe.
