Why I Think Ear Piercing Should Be More Tightly Regulated

I have a very simple view when it comes to piercing babies ears.  That is simply, it is mutilation and needs to be more tightly regulated.

Mutilate in the dictionary is listed as “to injure, disfigure, or make imperfect by removing or irreparably damaging parts”.

Well when it comes to piercing babies ears you are injuring the ear and disfiguring it.  When the ear has had an earring in it for many years the hole becomes permanent therefore making it irreparable.

To make it even worse the baby cannot say “mummy I want my ears pierced” which means you are doing it without consent and for the adults gratification.  This in itself is slightly sadistic.

For these reasons I feel that ear piercing should be banned for the under 13’s. For those aged 13 – 16 it should only be done with parental consent.

Do you agree or disagree?  Comment and tell us the reasons why.
