Christine loses her memories every night when she falls asleep. She wakes up every morning with no idea of who she is, how old she is, or who the man she’s sleeping next to is. After getting a call from Dr. Ed Nash who claims he might be able to help her, Christine starts keeping a journal for herself so she can write down everything she remembers before it’s wiped away the next day. The more she journals the more she realizes her husband hasn’t been telling her the whole truth about her life but without her memories she has no way to know for sure.
Written in gripping first person Watson’s debut novel was impossible to put down. Each chapter is written as Christine’s journal entry and as the pieces start to fall into place you will be amazed. Watson
has expertly weaved together fragments of Christine’s life into snippets of memory that enable you to try and solve the mystery along with Christine while not having quite enough information to know for sure (although if you’re anything like me you’ll be guessing through the book). Not only has Watson created a shocking mystery/thriller, but she also captures the emotions of Christine and the people in her life with delicacy. While Christine’s case seems beyond belief Watson has created enough reality to hold onto that it isn’t hard to believe.I didn’t expect to finish this book in one day, but after the first 50 pages I couldn’t put it down. I have nothing but good things to say about this book and I am looking forward to Watson’s next novel with baited breath. If you haven’t read this book yet I strongly advise you to put it on your summer reading list. Or better yet, go pick up a copy right now. This is the kind of book you’ll have to set aside a day to finish. I know I couldn’t read it fast enough. I can’t decide if I’m excited or not for the movie version of this to come out. I’m a little worried there are certain things this book does that will get lost when taken out of book form…then again I’m also excited to re-discover it as a movie. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
