“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’ To this day, especially in times of disaster, I remember my mother’s words and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers — so many caring people in this world.”

  • Runners crossing the finish line and on to the hospital to donate blood
  • Police and others rushing towards the scene to break down the blockades separating the marathon route from the injured spectators
  • Doctors, nurses & EMTs in the crowd and who were already volunteering stepping up the medical tent into essentially a disaster triage.
  • Police departments in nearby towns sending officers to help.

Helpers were everywhere. These horrible events don’t tear us apart, the bring us together.

My heart is full of sadness for the injuries and deaths, for innocence lost, for the evil actions of weak people.
