What Would You Do If You Won the Lottery?

By Cleverbuttons @cleverbuttons

It’s a question we probably all think about whenever we buy a Euromillions ticket, hoping that we finally become a multi multi millionaire. But if you did win that jackpot, what would you actually do?

Buy a load of cars, a ridiculous house in London, maybe a ridiculous house in a couple of places abroad? Why not. Here are a few suggestions.

Buy the car of your dreams

Most people will say “oh you should invest it”, “set yourself up for life” that kind of thing. There’s plenty of that a few months down the line. The first thing that many of us would do (no should do) is buy the car of your dreams. Yes you can go Ferrari, Bentley, Aston Martin – something like that. But why not throw a curveball and go for the A-Team van or something along those lines? Not a copy though. The actual one. Don’t forget some cheap van insurance though – even millionaires need to be thrifty when it’s called for.

Go public?

This is a big question some lottery winners get wrong. Do you go public or do you just keep it amongst close friends and family? It’s a tough one. The publicity at the beginning may make you feel like a celebrity, but even celebs will tell you too much publicity can be a bad thing. The choice is up to you.

Invest

We had to touch on this at some point didn’t we? So it might as well be now. What are you actually going to do with all your money? While we may want to lock it in a vault and dive through gold coins on a daily basis ala Duck Tales, it’s simply not possible. It might seem like the most boring thing in the world, but you need to sit down with some top level financial advisors who will help you make your millions into even more millions.

Quit your job?

They say, even those who win the most money need something in their lives to keep a bit of structure to the days. Could you see yourself still getting up at 7.30 to jump in your A-Team van and drive to the same old job every day, pretending that you hadn’t changed? No us, neither. You can definitely find something else to occupy your time.

See the world

And this is what I would suggest. Yes you may have been to most of Europe and maybe even Thailand, but there must be so many places in the world you’re yet to see. Make this your day to day structure – seeing new place after new place. Once you’ve done that, you can decide where you want to but those big plots of land for your extravagant property. Why not, you deserve it.
