Happy October, everyone! Hope you have lots of space on the DVR, because there is a lot to look forward to in the upcoming month.
Naturally, since it’s October, there are a whole lot of horror movies on the schedule. Since I’m really digging horror movies at the moment, I’m totally excited about this. Every Friday night this month will be dedicated to classic horror films. Christopher Lee is the Star of the Month, so although not all of his films were horror, his work in those films are very well represented. And, as if that weren’t enough, they’re also doing a Monster of the Month tribute to Frankenstein every Sunday night.
Last October, TCM did an amazing spotlight on trailblazing women in the film industry, focusing on women who worked as directors. They’re doing another trailblazing women spotlight this month, but this time, they’ll be focusing on highlighting actresses who were more than just actresses. These are actresses who became moguls, fought against prejudice, made significant contributions during WWII, fought for social change, and so much more. Don’t miss this year’s trailblazing women spotlight every Tuesday and Thursday night, the lineup looks fantastic.

October 1: If you’re going to be up late, you’re not going to want to miss Roar at 2:00 AM. If you’re not going to be up late, set your DVR. Believe me, folks, seeing Roar is not the sort of experience you ever forget.
October 2: Glad to see Buona Sera Mrs. Campbell is on today at 12:00 PM since I missed that one at TCMFF this year. Later tonight is a Frankenstein triple feature of Frankenstein at 8:00 PM, Bride of Frankenstein at 9:30 PM, and Son of Frankenstein at 11:00 PM.
October 3: The first day of Christopher Lee as Star of the Month kicks off at noon today with Captain Horatio Hornblower, followed by The Crimson Pirate at 2:30 PM, The Warriors at 4:30 PM, The Accursed at 6:15 PM. Jinnah at 8:00 PM, Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring at 10:00 PM, The Three Musketeers at 1:15 AM, and The Four Musketeers at 3:15 AM.
October 4: Any day that starts out with some Buster Keaton is a good day. The Cameraman at 7:30 AM, Spite Marriage at 9:00 AM, Free and Easy at 10:30 AM, and Parlor, Bedroom, and Bath at 12:15 PM. Tonight is the first night of the Trailblazing Women series, starting with a night of actresses who were also moguls. Up at 6:00 PM is the documentary Mary Pickford: The Muse of the Movies, followed by Little Annie Rooney at 8:00 PM, Mothers of Men at 10:00 PM, Yours, Mine and Ours at 11:15 PM, and Thoroughly Modern Millie at 1:15 AM.
October 5: This month’s guest programmers are Jonah Goldberg and Leon Wieseltier, who have chosen A Face in the Crowd at 8:00 PM, America America at 10:15 PM, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington at 1:15 AM, and Fury at 3:30 AM.
October 6: A day full of Carole Lombard and Hitchcock movies? I can’t complain.
