What’s on My Sewing Table: A Project Worth Remaking

Have you ever had one of these projects? Being the good seamstress that you are, you make a muslin. There are a few minor adjustments, but nothing that puts your rulers, pencil, and eraser into overdrive – they only get a short cardio workout. You prewash and if the fabric is striped or has a large motif, you match everything up at the seams. You clip all thread tails and remember to sew that hook and eye you never attach because it’s the last, teeny tiny step. Finished, you try on the final piece and… your don’t really like it. Yes, every project ends up somewhere different than what you first envisioned, but as long as it’s on par with what you had in mind going into the project, that’s okay. This is that kind of project. It’s not bad, but it’s not good. There are enough minor changes that it’s worth making another sample. So that’s what I’m going to do – try again. It’s a little frustrating to make another, but in the end, it will be worth it. I mean, come on, the pattern is a matching top and short set – what’s not to love about that!?

So I’ll leave you with a snippet of this project and ask you again, have you ever had one of these projects? Did you remake it or just let it be?
