What Is Love by Howard Jones.

Howard Jones has a voice that couldn’t be more perfect for new wave. I love the feeling of his music too, it always has a nostalgic twist to it. Whenever I hear his songs, I think back to all sorts of things in my life – the good and the bad. He’s also a great lyricist because he’s honest, heartfelt, and not afraid to ask the questions that everyone else in the world is asking. For example, like today’s song. What is Love? Plus, he’s a fellow Pisces like me! :)

What Is Love was released as a single in November of 1983 from his debut album, Human’s Lib. It went to #33 on Billboard’s Hot 100 by the summer of 1984 and in the UK, it went to #2 on the Singles Chart making it Jones’ highest charting single to date overseas.

The song was originally titled “Love?” on a demo tape in which he recorded in 1982. This tape was available at his gigs prior to being signed.

In 1984, the track was featured in the 1984 superhero film, Super Girl starring Helen Slater, Peter O’Toole, and Faye Dunaway among others.
