Weekly Roundup 5th September 2014
I have changed the way I organize myself for this post because of a post I read on 6 Tools & Apps to Help Manage Your Blog on Running on Real Food and that has lead me to use Feedly to keep on top of the blogs I follow and then Evernote for organising things. It was a different experience and definitely needs some fine tuning but I think I quite like it. The only problem is that I keep adding more blogs to my list which means more and recipes but that also means more inspiration for the blog which can't be bad. The recipes pictured above are detailed below starting at the top left hand corner and working clockwise:
  • I am starting with a blog that I do not think I have featured before and the recipe is Oat and Pecan Cake with Vanilla Ginger Frosting from This Rawsome Life. I do not normally feature raw recipes, not for any real reason other than they do not normally grab me but this one definitely did, it not only loos amazing but sounds fantastic too.
  • This next recipe is one I could easily see me bringing into what my mom calls my "signatures" which are the recipes she loves and demands on a regular basis. This stunning picture is of BBQ Chickpea Flatbread Pizzas with Jalapeño Plum BBQ Sauce from Keepin' It Kind. Just the name has me salivating.
  • The next recipe was one that I was debating on as I had 2 chocolate cakes that I loved but this one won out and is Gluten Free Chilled Chocolate & Hazelnut Torte from Vegan Insanity. It looks truly amazing and I am sure it will deliver on flavor. In case you wanted to know the other recipe was Frozen Mississippi Mud Pie again from Keepin' It Kind which also looks stunning.
  • For quick, easy and tasty the winner has to be Peanut Butter Coconut Tofu Noodles from Amuse Your Bouche. I think we are all looking for simple recipes for the working week and this has a lovely balance of protein and carbs and of course some good fats and a wonderful dose of veggies, what more could you ask for!
  • I love lemon, I love sugar and I love the combination of lemon and sugar even more. These stunning little Lemon Blondies from Allyson Kramer are not only packed with lemon and sugar but are also gluten free and vegan, they have to be the perfect sweet treat.
  • Last but not least is this amazing Pumpkin Pie Milkshake from Hungry Curious. When I go into my local health food shop they have the pumpkin puree in jars and I keep going to pick a jar up and then thinking, "but what am I going to do with it" Now I know!
There are so many other things to share with you I am not sure how to fit them all in my brain and then write them down but here goes:
  • I am going to start with a little bit of happiness boosting which we all need sometimes. If you are having one of those days then try one of these 12 No Cost Pick Me Ups from To Her Core or you could try these 5 Science backed Ways to Boost Your Happiness on Mindful.org.
  • On Wednesday I took my first yoga class and actually used a lot of things I have learned from Yoga Sport Science and did a session designed for runners. I was so nervous before I started but once I got going I really enjoyed it and it seemed to go down well.
  • I have 2 posts that are great if you want to do a bit of vegan baking and the first is Joy the Baker's Favourite Vegan Egg Substitutes and the other is A Guide to Vegan Baking from Fran Costigan on Veg News.
  • If you are trying to lose weight then these 9 Metabolism Boosting Foods on Bembu will be a great help.
  • Just a random thought on metabolism boosting, I know there is a lot of science about the effect of certain foods on metabolism and also on exercise and yoga but I have to say I don't notice it. Sometimes I think I might be a bit weird but it does not seem to matter what I do or eat there is a simple formula for me: If I eat 2000 calories per day I maintain my weight, less than that I lose weight, more and I put weight on. I know this goes against all health advice and everything else but everybody is different and that is me I am afraid.
  • Find the Best Sleeping Position for Every Ailment with this infographic from Mind Body Green. Well it says every ailment which is a bit of an exaggeration still very useful though.
  • I have done a couple of yoga classes on gratitude this week and I loved doing it and actually got a lot of gratitude from my students after the class (it was the subliminal messages!) One of the things they seemed to like was the music and you can check out my Gratitude Playlist Here. i have to say that I am so grateful to everyone that attended my classes this week they made it very easy for me and helped make a wonderful atmosphere. I don't know about them but I had a really fantastic time.
  • Finally I want to end with something that really made me smile when I read it, check out this Baby Squirrel on Vegan Crunk. I just love it and it brought a little bit of happiness into my life this week.
