Weekly Marketing Skinny • April 25, 2015

Posted on the 25 April 2015 by Ana Hoffman @AnaTrafficCafe

Don’t have the time to read all the marketing news, blog posts, announcements, and other content related to SEO/social media/online marketing published each week?

I’ve got you covered.

I sift through trillions (well, hundreds) of online publications to stay on top of marketing news that might affect your online business.

And I package them neatly in bite-sized chunks in my Weekly Marketing Skinnies right here at Traffic Generation Café every Saturday morning.

Well, most Saturdays… Some of you have noticed my brief absence (thanks so much for your emails!) Just needed a break. Was allergic to my computer for a couple of weeks. You know how it goes… Back to life now!

Between you and me, I have no idea why I bother investing hours of my time weekly reading all these marketing news just to boil them down for you in my Weekly Marketing Skinnies, other than the fact that I know you don’t have the time to keep up with the fast-paced marketing industry on your own, yet you DO need to be in-the-know to remain competitive.

Plus, your enthusiastic comments and social media shares show me just how much you truly appreciate being kept in the marketing loop in just a few minutes per week.

If you appreciate what I do, share this Marketing Skinny:

THANK YOU.

Now grab your cup of coffee and let’s catch up on the marketing news that matter to your business.

SEO

April 21 marks the spot day. Google’s Mobilegeddon Day. If your website is not mobile friendly and you noticed a traffic drop, that’s why.

Google’s mobile friendly algorithm has already rolled out completely in some data centers.

Google says there are 4.7% more mobile-friendly websites today than two months ago.

Creative Commons attribution links: add ‘nofollow’ to them.

Social Media

Wow. Facebook passes 1.44B monthly active users and 1.25B mobile users; 65% are now daily users.

And, like that wasn’t enough, Facebook Video soars past 4 Billion daily views. Autoplay!

Facebook News Feed FYI: Facebook will now show more updates from friends (yay!), even less content from Pages (nay…).

This is interesting… Facebook introduces Hello – Caller ID & Blocking, plus local search app.

This is a first… (of many?): Judge allows divorce papers to be served via Facebook.

Google+ is testing a new “Collections” feature – this might be very Pinteresting…

A slew of Periscope updates. I love it more and more. Here’s a tutorial for you to get started with Periscope over the weekend. (like you’ve got better things to do?)

Updates to Direct Messages on Twitter: a new setting allows you to receive Direct Messages from anyone.

Twitter introduced Highlights: a summary of the best Tweets delivered via rich push notification.

Did you know you can now add comments to retweets? A great thing. Here’s why you should definitely add a comment to your retweets.

WordPress

Named in honor of jazz pianist Bud Powell, version 4.2 of WordPress is available for download or update in your WordPress dashboard. Here’s what’s new.

Many very popular plugins for SEOs, including WordPress SEO, Google Analytics by Yoast, All In one SEO, and WPTouch, were affected by the latest XSS Vulnerability. Update now – the full list of affected plugins here.

On a Side Note…

Marketing This & That

Google has just launched its long-rumored wireless cellular service – Project Fi. Here’s what you need to know.

Google gets into content recommendation with AdSense Matched Content – like services such as OutBrain and Taboola.

Contributor by Google, “an experiment in additional ways to fund the web”, is now live in beta, invite-only. The idea behind it is you pay to see fewer ads. Simple. Possibly utopical.

Italian eyewear maker Luxottica working with Google on cheaper version of Glass to be out soon.

Ingenuity? Amazon to deliver parcels to Audi trunks in Germany.

Amazon launched handyman ‘home services’ platform for gardening, goat-grazing, and more.

Amazon filed first-ever suit over fake product reviews.

Comcast confirmed it had terminated $45B Time Warner Cable merger agreement.

That’s fast… Comcast outdoes Google Fiber with new 2Gbps internet service.

Thank You

To all of you who mentioned Traffic Generation Café in any share or form in the past week, my whole-hearted THANK YOU.

Traffic Generation Café would NOT be what it is today without you.

And I am not the only one who thinks that, by the way.
