Weekend Box Office: ‘Cinderella’ Runs Away With The Shoe

Posted on the 16 March 2015 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

Cinderella managed to win the weekend, and the heart of audiences. The Disney film scored an A cinemascore and an 84% on Rotten Tomatoes. The combination has led to Cinderella exceeding all expectations and landing a 70M opening weekend. Run All Night couldn’t put up much of a fight, but an A- cinemascore could help in future weeks. Kingsman continues to hold well.

Cinderella led the Top 10 in the per screen average race as well with $18,219. Outside of the top 10, well reviewed horror film It Follows landed $40,750. Kingsman only dropped 25%, The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel dipped 33%, McFarland USA dipped 29%, American Sniper slid 33%, and The DUFF slipped 39% while Spongebob dropped 38%. Not holding so well was Chappie with 56%, and Unfinished Business fell 52%.

Opening next week, Insurgent is tracking to land a big opening, Do You Believe hopes to follow in the footsteps of other Christian success stories, and Sean Penn’s poorly reviewed The Gunman opens. Just how poorly reviewed you ask? It has a 0% on Rotten Tomatoes.
