Wedding Season

Wedding Season
Like most ladies and gents my age, I attend several weddings each year. Love is especially in the air these days, as my beau and I seem to be going to a wedding every other month. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE weddings! The outpouring of love, cocktails, and bad dancing is right up my alley. Yet in today's Insta- world, weddings come with a sea of flashbulbs, posting your wedding guest #ootd immediately to social media.
Every girl knows that there are few worse fashion faux pas than being tagged in the same outfit, over, and over, and over again. On the other hand, if I bought a new frock for each friend's nuptials, I'd be collecting dresses like the "single table" collects cocktails before the bar closes for dinner. This dilemma begs a serious question: How does a girl switch up her wedding look without drowning in a sea of new, expensive dresses in the process? Here are my rules for surviving wedding season in style.
  • Stagger and SUSHA... I keep several favorite dresses in regular rotation. In addition to that, I SUTHA. What is SUTHA you ask? Switch up the shoes, hair, and accessories. Changing this entire trifecta can instantly transform the same dress, making it virtually unrecognizable.
  • RTR... There is no shame in the renting game. Rent the Runway is a thrifty girl's best friend. Their motto is that they offer you access to your dream closet, and they are not lying. Showcasing the top trends, with other 200 top designers, dresses and accessories at every price point, and $25 off your first rental, it's absolutely worth a try. Check them out here.
  • Dress swap with a gal pal... If you're anything like me, you have too many pretty dresses collecting dust in your closet. What seems to make a lot more sense than letting these beauties take up closet space, would be organizing a dress swap with some gal pals. Hopefully you have a friend with really great, expensive taste!
  • That old bridesmaid dress... While some are beyond help, it's worth asking your tailor if they can do something with a bridesmaid dress. This isn't possible however, with those polyester bombs!
  • Know the couple, know the dress code... My initial assumption is that every wedding requires cocktail attire. Yet, knowing a couple well, the venue of the wedding, and their own personal style lends some helpful hits as to what you should wear to their wedding. Maybe your favorite sundress with somestrappysandals will be perfect, rather than that same old black number that your boyfriend is tired of seeing.
