Brisbane’s Go Violets used to be my go-to girl pop band. So when they decided to call it quits this year, I couldn’t wait to hear what they would do next. Stevie is the latest project of Go Violet’s singer and guitarist, Phoebe Imhoff, now combined with the production talents of Miro Mackie. Their first single as an electopop duo, “Come Around”, is a breezy track with an addictive hook, squeaky clean production and just a hint of sass. Articulate in message and instrumentation, the song explores Imhoff’s observations of relationships with precise layers of syncopated drums, keys, synths and harmonization. It’s a song that leaves me wanting more from Stevie.
