Wake Up!!

By Landfall @landfallvoyages

At 6:00 this morning I woke up for a moment thinking that I’d be going right back to sleep for awhile longer. It’s Sunday. Still dark then. Just a minute later the wind started to blow. And blow. And blow hard!

I stepped out on deck and witnessed chaos. The weather’s been so benign that we’ve been a little slack about stowing our gear and nothing was prepared for 30-35 knots of wind all of a sudden.

I ran past the pilothouse to rescue a kayak paddle that was in the process of being pitched over the life lines and then my surf boards took flight. I caught them and pushed them back down to tie them as the new canopy that I tied up “temporarily” yesterday started to try to lift the whole boat up.

At that moment Tamiko ran out to help.

It’s been hot, really hot, day and night. That will become important in a minute.

We whipped the new canopy down quick before it was damaged or disappeared as a couple of people ran down the dock to stow their stuff too. They looked at us funny.
We wadded up the nearly lethal canopy and threw it down below and as we were able to relax a little and deal with the small stuff I realized that we were both naked. OOPS!

The wind and rain stopped right after we finished preparing for (reacting to?) it.

It’s still hot.
