Wait For Potty Training Signs Or Push Child Into Toilet Training?

I have always waited for my children to show signs that they were ready to start potty training before we started training them.

I have found that waiting for the children to be ready made the training so much easier.

So many mums are so keen and eager to get their child potty trained that all they do is push their child into doing something that they are just not quite ready for.

I see some mums stating how their eighteen month old is out of nappies and this makes me quite sad as I don’t know many eighteen months old who even know when they are going to wee let alone be able to tell you.

Around the three years mark seems to be the perfect age for potty training.

Kia my 4 year old daughter did not even use a potty and went straight onto the toilet, we waited until she was ready to train and then once she was showing all the signs we bought a special toilet seat designed for toddlers and away she went with no fuss and few accidents.

Your child needs to learn to recognize the need to go to the toilet and this physiological development of bowel and bladder movement matures between the ages of one and two years.

Your child needs to be able to walk independently and actually get to the potty or the toilet themselves and also of course be able to communicate with you to tell you they need to go.

I for one will wait for my children to show the signs that they are ready to potty train and not push them into it – what about you?
