Volunteering: Teach Your Child to Care

By Therealsupermum @TheRealSupermum

Have you thought about the example that you are setting for your children? Parents are the ones that can set a great example for their children. Sure, you might be busy with all of the things that you have to do, but your children are your greatest priority. If you want them to grow up to be functioning members of society, you need to teach your children the importance of volunteering. Volunteering is an easy way to show your children that you care about the community that you live in. Here are some easy ways that you can volunteer―they aren’t huge projects―and they will show your children that you care.

1. Bring food to your kid’s activities. You might shy away from bringing food because you don’t think that you are a great chef. You don’t have to be. Often, food is needed for a slew of things. You might need it for sports events or fundraisers. If you don’t feel comfortable making some cookies, you can bring chips or drinks.

2. Start recycling. In many cities, recycling isn’t just a given. Many schools have to throw everything away because they can’t afford to hire a private recycling company. You can start on a small scale and and recycle what’s in your child’s classroom. If it’s successful. You can even make the recycling project larger.

3. Use your green thumb. Many schools rely on professional companies to do their landscaping. However, many schools also rely on volunteer work to keep their grounds looking beautiful. If you want to lend a helping hand, consider volunteering to help the school doing their yard work. You can take a weekend to beautify the campus and don’t forget to take your kids too!

4. Chaperone. Volunteers are often needed when there are field trips. If you have some extra time, your children would really love to have you at their field trip. When the kids are younger, they always want their parents to be at the field trips with them. If you’ve got a free day, take advantage and take your kid on their field trip.

5. Donate classroom supplies. Nowadays, it seems harder for teachers to get a large budget for their classroom. Talk to your child’s teacher to find out if they need some extra supplies for the school year. It doesn’t matter how big or small your donation is, it can really make a difference in the classroom.
