When students ask me what is the most important thing to know when going into the real world of interior design, I always say learn how to sketch. There is nothing better than being able to sketch out your ideas to a client. Remember most people are not visual.
Here are some of our renderings for the DC design show house.
Master BedroomAs you know if you follow the blog, this is the room we are doing. This is our first sketch so things have changed. I'll post the final rendering during the Bare Bones Tour week coming up in February. Custom iron bed, mirrors and shagreen end tables. I love this Ironies chandelier but it has changed to a fabulous 1960's antique - SPECTACULAR! Soft colors but oh so rich in details.
Dining Room
Mother of Pearl ceiling, Carerra marble dining table top, Vaughan glass chandelier, Flocked wallpaper in a geometric design, acid green, plums and greys - I loved it.
Living Room
Fabulous egolisme ceiling, textured wallpaper, creams and aquas, soft and glamourous. I'm dying to try this glass treatment for something. Our mirrors will be a small touch of this.
Office
This room was off the kitchen. I loved the idea of graining all the woodwork and painting the room high gloss yellow - Shocking! Awesome antique sputnik, Pierre Frey splatter fabric for draperies, wool chairs, and yellow glass Porta Romana lamp. I would have been the bomb.
Sketching is a great way to visualize the room. It takes skill and practice. Thanks to our Bridget Beari team member Sarah for these awesome drawings and some of the coloring by yours truly.
