Violet Voss x Laura Lee Eyeshadow Palette Review and Swatches

By Kwilliford @ExquisiteEczema
I will be perfectly honest with ya'll. I had no idea who Laura Lee was before buying this palette. I started seeing all of the pictures of the palette on social media and loved how it looked. I immediately checked out her channel and watched her video on the palette. I knew right then I had to have it. First of all, it has a ton of warm toned shadows. Secondly, I love the names she chose for each shadow because they are Southern inspired and they are inspired by her life (and cats). Finally, I have never tried anything by Violet Voss. So by the time June 10th came about (the pre-order date), I decided to buy it. And I am so very happy I did. I tried it after raving about the ABH Modern Renaissance Palette. I LOVE that palette, but I think I like this one even more.

This palette has 20 shades and it has everything: great transition shades, lid shades, a highlight shade, smokier shades, and a nice pop of color. I did something a little different with my swatches. I did the usual no primer vs primer and not blended vs blended. I also included brush swatches over primer for each shade. I'll indicate which is which under the photo.
  • Row 1:
    • Basic: matte white
    • Sugah: shimmery golden champagne
    • Priss Pot: matte peach that makes a great transition shade
    • Mama Bird: matte apricot that makes a lovely crease shade or transition shade
    • Ragamuffin: matte orange

  • Row 2, or as I like to call it, utter perfection:
    • Larlee: iridescent champagne with a pink shift that looks great on the lid or inner corner.
    • Tickled Pink: metallic light pink. It is a beautiful lid shade, but also works as on the inner corner.
    • Hissy Fit: metallic bronze
    • Bitty: metallic copper
    • 1988: metallic pink with a gold shift

  • Row 3:
    • Fleeky: metallic, intense gold
    • Britches: matte medium tan
    • Fried: matte dijon mustard yellow. Looks awful in the pan, but looks great on the crease.
    • Yoshi: shimmery warm brown with a blue shift
    • Rammer Jammer: shimmery cranberry

  • Row 4:
    • Alabama: matte warm brown
    • Wiskers: matte chocolate brown
    • Bubs: matte, dark cool toned brown
    • Smashlee: metallic teal with gold shimmer. Almost looks like a forest green in some lighting.
    • Lou: matte black

With the exception of a couple of colors, this palette is absolute perfection. I have seen a few comments by others saying that the mattes lack pigment, they are chalky, don't apply well, etc... I haven't had any of those problems with the exception of Lou and Fried. Lou is just flat out bad. It has crappy pigment, it is patchy, stiff, and hard to blend out. But I only use black shadows over liquid liner, and it serves that purpose. Fried isn't the most pigmented, but it can be built up and it looks great on the eye. With the exception of Lou, all of the mattes are creamy, nicely pigmented and easy to blend out. The metallic and shimmer shades in this palette are insanely great. I can't get over how buttery and pigmented they are while still being easy to work with. Those shades alone make this palette worth buying. I have a lot of warm toned shimmery shades, but nothing like these. And Smashlee? I haven't seen anything quite like it before. This is just a great, well thought out palette and I cannot stop using it. It is all I have used since June 22nd.  I wish it wasn't limited edition because I can see myself needing a back up of it. I would have ordered another one, but I don't want to take a palette away from someone else who really wants it.
The packaging is pretty cool. It is a matte black with a shiny paint splash that has Laura Lee's signature on it. The palette itself is so thin and lightweight, it feels weightless. It does come with a mirror and while it has pretty much every shade you could need, I am not sure how travel friendly it is. The palette doesn't provide much cushioning for the shadows, so I would be careful with it.

This palette is $45 and each shadow is approximately 0.019 oz. It is still available, but this is the last time. According to the Violet Voss site, the ship date will be July 11th. The ship date for the pre-order was June 20th and I had my palette two days later, so shipping is pretty fast. You can buy the palette here.
Like I said, I recommend it 100%.  I am going to get another FOTD post using this palette so you can see more of what can be done with it.
See you soon!
