Video on Demand: Movies Online & Internet TV

Posted on the 27 August 2013 by Gumptionent @gumptionent

Lately here at Gumption we have been talking about Business Plans.  We are going to switch gears for a while and this week we are going to talk about the growth of Internet TV and Movies Online.  One of the largest reasons why this medium of watching has developed so much is because of Video On Demand services.
Here are a few reasons why:

Let us clarify what all of this means both for the viewer and the companies that are providing:
  • No constraints as to when to watch a movie or show
  • Added confidence in providers for advertisers
  • Watch anywhere, anytime

So, as the viewer we now have more options for picking how and when we want to watch a movie or show.  This is great because the world is always on the go and we want to be able to stream our favorite movies online and watch Internet TV.  Whether it is via a phone, laptop, desktop, or tablet device we can pick the best time for us and don’t have to worry about recording a show to watch at a later time.
The second point is the one that may confuse some people.  Here is why we added it.  As a video production company we can get more revenue through ads.  Not only production companies but also the distribution companies.  Now if advertisers know that we are skipping their ads by fast-forwarding then what is keeping them spending money on placement?  NOTHING!  This is bad because increased revenue means more money to produce more shows, and better ones at that.  This also adds the value of being able to break down analytics and give viewers the option to pick a subset category of commercials that tailors to their interests.  This gives a better experience for the viewer and ads to the credibility of the return on investment that will be seen by the advertiser.
The last point goes hand in hand with the first point.  We can watch anytime and anywhere.  If you want to watch on your phone, laptop, desktop, or tablet, you can.  This is incredible news for producers of movies and shows, and to viewers around the globe.
Check out the amazing numbers here and let us know what you think!
