Puma have released a limited edition Uruguayan Olympic uniform as La Celeste return to the tournament that saw them become kings of back in 1924 and 1928. More importantly, their squad is one that is considered by many as one of the three top contenders for the gold medal when play begins in a couple of weeks.

The jersey will be a special edition and the biggest difference will be that the crest will not that of the Uruguayan FA (AUF), instead it will be that of that country’s Olympic Committe.

Outside of that, there is no difference in the kit.

Their 84-year absence was felt and the country is abuzz over this return to the event where they established themselves as the first footballing world power that was not named England.

If you go to the Estadio Centenario you will find that two of their sectors are named after the cities where they were able to obtain their two Olympic gold medals. The tribuna Amsterdam and tribuna Colombes are symbols two of the country’s greatest sporting victories and they look to equal both Great Britain and Hungary as the most successful teams in this competition with three gold medals.
