For those like me out there, who are fans of Roland and his Ka-tet, we have some encouraging news about the adaptation plans for Stephen King's 'The Dark Tower'. This news comes after a very long time without any news at all - except for some chatter about Aaron Paul's dreams of playing Eddie in the franchise, that is.
Ron Howard is still heading the initiative, and he recently spoke with Empire about the long awaited, much beloved, project. Though he didn't have a whole lot to say - in fact, he mentions that they've all taken a "vow of silence" - about where they are headed, he does mention the only seven words that really matter to me: "It got delayed, it's never gone away". This is fantastic news for we Dark Tower fans!
Though there are really no other details on the upcoming movie / TV series / whatever is decided when the time comes, just reading that the project is still being worked on is good enough for me. I think anyone who has read the 7 novels - 7.5 including 'The Wind Through The Keyhole' - realize that this is a massive undertaking for anyone to tackle, even if you are uber-experienced Ron Howard. On that thought, he had this to say:
"It’s a fascinating, powerful possibility and even Stephen King acknowledges it’s a tricky adaptation, but to be honest, from a financing side, it’s not a straightforward, four-quadrant, sunny superhero story – it’s dark, it’s horror. That edge is what appeals to me, the complexities of those characters is what appeals to all of us. And I think Stephen King really respects that..."I think we fans can, and should, be patient waiting for this one. We all want it to be as awesome as we have in our heads I'm sure, so patience from all sides of this project, including us on the outside, is probably not the worst idea. It'll be tough to do, but I'll try my best!
