Under the Bridge by Red Hot Chili Peppers.

I’m not really a fan of RHCP but some of their songs are good, like this one. I felt like every time a new album was released it had too muchradio play. In other words, I’d get tired of hearing the same songs over and over.  I also have some issues with John Frusciante (who last I heard had left the band again)…but I won’t get into that one.

Under the Bridge was released as a single in March of 1992 from the band’s fifth album, Blood Sugar Sex Magik. Frontman Anthony Kiedis wrote it about his feelings of loneliness and being despondent. It also reflected on his past drug use and how it affected his life. He was initially reluctant to show the other band members the lyrics since it was so different from their usual songs. However, producer Rick Rubin convinced him to do so and they liked it.

The song did well in the US, making #2 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks. It made the #1 spot in Australia’s Top 40.

Today’s video is a live performance.

I don’t know why, but I always think of high school when I hear this. I may have heard it on the bus during a field trip.
