The U’nha Guidance Bureau, one of the largest textile and consumer goods’ economic complexes in the DPRK which operates several textile plants in the country, marked its 40th anniversary at a report meeting on July 14 (Thursday).  Attending the meeting were An Jong Su (Director of the Workers’ Party of Korea [WPK] Light Industry Department) and managers and employees of the U’nha Guidance Bureau.  According to a report delivered at the anniversary meeting, “Kim Il Sung (Kim Il-so’ng) took such a revolutionary measure as making sure that a new organ was formed to guide the garment trade of the country in a uniform way. He saw to it that the organ conducted production and trade independently and provided raw and other materials and funds for light industry.  Kim Jong Il (Kim Cho’ng-il) indicated the principled problems and ways for the development of garment trade and led the bureau to reorganize the work system so that it might serve the purpose of improving the standard of people’s living.”

The report and speeches also noted that the U’nha Guidance Bureau “has grown into a huge garment producer with competent technicians and strong production groundwork and a militant and powerful group devotedly carrying out the party’s trade policies and light industry policy under the leadership of the party and the leaders over the past four decades.”
