Scott Hansen, better known now as electronic music God Tycho, began his career making dreamy and unique soundscapes as a side project from his graphic design career. Now, three phenomenal full-length albums later and a few tours around the world under his belt, it is safe to say Tycho has solidified his place as a musician in the contemporary sonic landscape with a complex and unique sound. For two nights at Hollywood’s Fonda theater, Tycho took the stage with his band for a pair of pop-up shows. With opening acts Dusty Brown (a longtime Tycho collaborator) and Jason Bentley (KCRW music guru and DJ extraordinaire), the evening was one filled with ethereal and atmospheric dance music.

Tycho took the stage late in the evening, and was accompanied by a stunning montage of design and film projected onto the stage. It took us into Tycho’s world, filled with faded memories, surreal canyons, endless deserts and glimpses of nature. The set ranged from classics off of his first record, Past is Prologue, through the highly-regarded Dive, Awake, and his new album, Epoch. It was not only a live music event, but a full fledged sensory experience, and one that will surely not be forgotten by those in attendance to Tycho’s tour dates.
