Twitter is Spying on Your Phone for Ad Targeting, Here’s How to Stop It

Posted on the 27 November 2014 by Nrjperera @nrjperera

“To help build a more personal Twitter experience for you, we are collecting and occasionally updating the list of apps installed on your mobile device so we can deliver tailored content that you might be interested in,” Twitter stated on a help center article.

Twitter assures that they are only collecting the list of apps installed on your phone, and not collecting “any data within the applications”. Even though, who likes when someone’s spying on their phone, right?

Thankfully, you can fix this issue and stop Twitter from spying on your phone, without having to uninstall the app.

Here’s how -:

  1. Open the Twitter app on your phone
  2. Hit the “gear” icon on the app to bring up the options
  3. Tap on “settings”
  4. Go to your “Account”
  5. In “Others” section uncheck the “Tailor Twitter based on my apps” checkbox.

Twitter introduced the app Graph system with its new update to the Twitter app. If you can’t find the checkbox for the option mentioned above, you may be using an older version.
