Twitter Growth - Adds 16 Million New Users Last Quarter

Twitter Growth Expands

The Twitter growth rumor was that Twitter had reached it’s popularity peak. If you saw the news yesterday from the WSJ you would have read how their user growth picked up last quarter. These users also logged in at least once per month. Twitters shares rose 29% after hours to more than their first day closing price on the New York Stock Exchange.

Twitter believes this happened due to people’s shift to mobile. 78% of users are using Mobile according to EndGadget.com. Tweeting on mobile makes it so easy to log in daily and check your feed and tweet away. They doubled their ad revenue as well this past quarter. Mobile ads make up 81% of that revenue as well. They are still not near Facebook or Google for ad revenues yet.

Why The Twitter Growth Now?

The World Cup was one reason many users signed up for Twitter. You could find all kind of coverage and interaction between people on this one. The is also an increase in world conflicts and news that can dominate Twitter at times like these. Twitter also claims “syndicated viewers”, people who see tweets while reading news sites or watching television broadcasts has also increased. They also claim that the Twitter growth can be attributed to being the world’s real-time information network.
