This winter I’ve decided to knit stuff only using the yarn I had stashed in my closet in order to clear up some space. I’ve already used the last skein of mustard Alpacana Lanoso wool to knit a Basic Mustard Beanie. The Peru Soft wool of really nice purple color was next in line. I wanted to design something new and offered my sister Mari to knit her a hat. She showed me some designs which she liked and after some thinking and calculations I’ve came up with the Twig Beanie design. Below you can find the knitting instructions and the pattern chart. Materials:
– size 8 (5.0mm) Circular Knitting Needles;
– set of four size 8 (5.0mm) double pointed knitting needles;
– 3 skeins of Peru (Turkey) wool blend (150 grams)/ 220yards/200meters;
– yarn needle;
Gauge:
18 sts and 22 rows = 4×4in or 10×10cm
Size:
Hat diameter is 54 cm/22 in
The pattern is multiple to 12sts, use this info in case you wish to change the hat diameter.
Abbreviations:
K – Knit
P – Purl
K2tog – knit two stitches together
P2tog – purl two stitches together
cl1 – slip one stitch to cable needle and hold to front of work, knit one, knit one from cable needle
cr1 – slip one stitch to cable needle and hold to back of work, knit one, knit one from cable needle
Base of the hat:
Cast on 84 stitches using circular knitting needles and join for knitting in the round. Knit 10cm/4in of K1,P1 rib.
Pattern:
Row 1: *K1, P4, K3, P4* repeat until the end of row;
Row 2 and all even rows: (WS) Knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches.

Row 3:*K1, P3, CR1, K1, CL1, P3* repeat until the end of row;
Row 5:*K1,P2, CR1, P1, K1, P1, CL1,P2* repeat until the end of row;
Row 7:*K1, P1, CR1, P2, K1, P2, CL1,P1* repeat until the end of row;
Row 9:*K1, CR1, P2, K3, P2, CL1* repeat until the end of row;
Repeat rows 2-10 to form a pattern.
The base of the hat is 14cm/5.5in long. Repeat rows 2-10 4 times to achieve this length. After that you can start forming the crown of the hat.

Decreases are made on even rows.

Row 3:*K1, P1, CR1,P1,K1, P1, CL1, P1* repeat until the end of row.
Row 4:*K1, P1, K1, P2Tog, K1, P2Tog, K1, P1* repeat until the end of row. 56 stitches are left;
Row 5:*K1, CR1, P1, K1, P1, CL1* repeat until the end of row.
Row 6:*K2, P2Tog, K1, P2Tog, K1*repeat until the end of row. 42 stitches are left;
Row 7:*K2, P1, K1, P1, K1* repeat until the end of row.
Row 8: *K1, K2Tog, K2Tog, K1*repeat until the end of row. 28 stitches are left;
Row 9: *K all row;
Row 10: K2Tog until the end of row. 14 stitches are left;
Row 11: *K all row;
Row 12: *K2Tog until the end of row. 7 stitches are left;
Cut yarn. Please, leave the long tail and thread it through the remaining seven stitches. Pull tight and weave in the end on the inside of the beanie.
