On this episode of Turkish Football Weekly, Kaan (@razzerian) returns and joins Ata (@ata_dizdar).  So that means a lengthy episode is on tap.

With European club competition underway, two Turkish clubs find out who they play, while one already playing crashes out.  Bursaspor’s elimination at the hands of Chikhura Sachkhere in the UEFA Europa League second qualifying round is discussed.  Also, Besiktas and Karabukspor found out who their opponents are in the preliminaries of the UEFA Champions League and Europa League respectively, and the draw for them is discussed.

The discussion then heads to the news going around Turkish football.  Particular emphasis is placed on:

  • Akhisar Belediyespor selling off forward Oumar Niasse (for much more than Akhisar initially got him for)
  • Kasimpasa forward Eren Derdiyok suffering a long term injury after only recently being acquired by the club
  • Galatasaray acquiring goalkeeper Sinan Bolat on loan (and why his wages for the upcoming season may be a bit too much)
  • Eskisehirspor acquiring forward Welliton from Spartak Moscow
  • Besiktas walking away from the negotiating table to acquire midfielder Manuel Lanzini from River Plate.

The podcast continues with a debate on the lack of shirt sponsorship for many Turkish Super League clubs, after an article published in the Hurriyet Daily News earlier this week highlighted the glaring lack of shirt sponsorship.  Finally, the guys discuss their utter disdain for Digiturk, the Turkish cable service which broadcasts the Turkish Super League.
