Trying Something New: Aquafit

That was my first thought when Swimwear365 invited me along to an Aquafit class, but after checking I'd be able to take part - it's not secret that I can't swim, however  didn't want that to hold me back - I was excited for a new challenge. In fact, it wasn't until I arrived at the ever so elegant Haymarket Hotel, that I started to feel a little nervous.

I browsed through the new season swimwear (forming quite the wishlist despite no sunny adventures being booked) then watched the first group of girls take part and got a feel for what I was letting myself in for. Soon it was time to change into swimwear and get in the pool. For me, the hardest part was getting into the water and getting to the board. Once on the board I took a moment to steady myself; yes I was in a new environment, but I was safe and knew that if I had any difficulties someone would help. I was there to have fun and if I kept talking myself out of it, then I wouldn't enjoy it. The other girls in my group, Carmen, Chloe and Banke were great and I'm still not sure how Carmen managed to do mountain climbers (or aqua climbers I guess in this situation) so quickly and maintain her balance.

And guess what... I enjoyed it. Burpees, planking, squats - you name it, I gave it my best shot, wobbling around on that board. Yes it was challenging, but I did it. I worked at my own pace, I didn't feel self conscious and I didn't fall in. Though I left with damp hair and a grumbling stomach (soon rectified when I diverted to Tesco for olives before hopping on the tube), I didn't have dampened spirits; I knew I'd gained some confidence in myself and I've even been looking for Aquafit classes to take part in back at home.

Have you tried out aquafit or any other water based fitness classes?
